Z1 SecureMail Family: Zertificon refines its e-mail encryption solutions

Berlin, 09. April 2009

Manufacturer issues new service packs

Zertificon Solutions GmbH has again optimised its products for server-based e-mail encryption and signatures and has released the corresponding new service packs. Product maturity and quality have therefore been increased yet again, and functionality and userfriendliness have also been improved. Some new features, such as the possibility for external communications partners to send secure e-mails to each other, round off the scope of functionality now available. This makes the solutions suitable for an even broader target group and also provides increased usability.

The ‘Z1 SecureMail’ family of products is characterised by its provision of a secure and confidential transfer of electronic messages for companies of all sizes and with widely varying requirements. In addition to the popular PKI based security approach, the products also offer alternative password-based encryption methods. These have the advantage that they can also be used by companies and communication partners that do not have access to the established S/MIME standards or PGP certificates and keys. This means that often complex e-mail encryption is made available in an easy manner to users that do not have the IT setup usually required.

Zertificon reinforces this facilitation with the developments contained in the current service packs. For example, the Z1 Messenger 2.4 SP2 provides the new ‘Team Encryption’ function, which makes it possible for external users to send secure emails to each other. If, for example, an internal user sends an e-mail to two external users via the Z1 Messenger, each can now also send a reply to the other external recipient. In addition, further improvements have been implemented in the external user GUI and the admin interface in terms of user friendliness. The security functions for the initial definition of passwords, as well as for forgotten passwords, have also been optimised.

Usability and functionality are also core elements of the respective Service Pack 2 updates for the Z1 Backbone CertServer 2.2 and the Z1 Station 4.0. For the latter, Zertificon has refined the admin GUI with, for example, the ‘policy list view’. The clustering alerting has also been improved. Administrators will now receive more detailed messages about the condition and status of the Z1 Cluster and will also receive these more often. Z1 Clusters ensure automatic synchronisation of the participating Z1 systems in high-availability installations.

The configuration and maintenance of the Z1 Appliances Management 1.2 has been ensured with the development of a graphical web-admin interface. Furthermore, software updates for the appliance operating system and the Zertificon products installed on it are now also available in full for existing appliance customers by means of the proven ‘One-Click’ method in the admin interface. These are now available free of charge for enhancement of the Z1 Appliance Management Software.
